Candles/potpourri safe around birds?
Now, I would only be burning one if my Budgie was in her cage.
What candles/potpourri can I use around (like, in the same house with Riley in her cage) my Budgie?
If you don’t burn either, what do you use?
And yes, i know that you can’t use essential oils or incense and that if I do use candles, the wick has to completely 100% cotton.

Even normal candles are not recommended. Burning anything with a naked flame will create invisible odourless and highly toxic carbon monoxide gas. During this burning process, other chemicals and fumes are also released into the air.
These don’t pose a problem for humans, as we have a pretty advanced respiratory system, and our size helps too. Not so for birds. Even a tiny amount of often invisible fumes can be deadly for a bird. If you want to burn normal candles, best you remove the bird to a different room and close the door. Being in a cage, or being away from the source of the fumes makes no difference. Gases float through the air and disperse.
As for potpourri, I am not 100% certain. It stands to reason though if it smells, it’s giving off chemicals and fumes, unless you had a fully natural mixture you created yourself without the addition of artificial scents.
